Shaw Method

The Shaw Method, founded in 1987 by Steven Shaw, is a holistic approach to swimming that prioritizes working with water to achieve efficient, effective, and graceful swimming. Drawing on principles of the Alexander Technique, it focuses on improving body alignment and reducing tension in the head, neck, and back, promoting both enjoyment and ease in movement. Steven developed this method after overcoming neck and back pain caused by competitive swimming. Since completing training in 2023, I collaborate with Steven Shaw to stay current with his teachings. My lessons cater to all ages, emphasizing a personalized, enjoyable learning journey that aligns with each swimmer's pace.

Adult Classes

Since 2009, I have taught swimming to a wide range of swimmers, from young children to adults, recently incorporating the Shaw Method into my lessons. This method uses a step-by-step approach with small, individual movements that are built into a cohesive stroke. Emphasizing relaxation and working with the water, the method promotes graceful gliding, improved health, and mastery of swimming as a skill. Unlike traditional approaches focused on speed—which can create tension and strain—this technique fosters mindful alignment of the head, neck, and back, reducing the risk of injury. By working in the water alongside swimmers, I provide clear communication, demonstrations, and hands-on support to enhance their learning experience.
